In the past, leaders who emerged from the struggle did not reach heights by creating new dimensions of success just like that. Behind that were his deeds like sacrifice, penance, simplicity and spontaneity. Even in big meetings, big leaders did not get chairs. Rather, he used to irrigate the soil of his political life by sitting in the lap of the earth. A scene seen in a meeting of former Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru during the elections held in the district in 1962 is a witness to this.
Senior leader of the district Jaishankar Pandey, who was MLA from Ayodhya in the year 1977, says that he was a student of eighth class in 1962. He used to spend most of his time with his grandfather and freedom fighter Vashishtha Dev Pandey. Meanwhile, his interest in politics also started increasing. Brijwasi Lal was the Congress candidate from Faizabad in the then Lok Sabha elections. The then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru had come for his election campaign, who held a public meeting in the grounds of the cantonment area. He also reached the public meeting with his grandfather Vashishtha Dev Pandey.

Along with the Prime Minister, only national level leaders including Union Petroleum and Chemicals Minister Keshavdev Malviya, Congress President Ajit Prasad Jain could get a place on the stage and the stage was full. Even after this the rally was surging. Due to lack of space, many big leaders sat on the ground in front of the stage and listened to the Prime Minister’s address. Today’s election scenario is completely different. The pandal is beautifully decorated with expensive and VIP chairs, queued sofas etc. All arrangements are made to provide food and drink to the public and to transport them to the venue of the meeting.
