Ayodhya. Amit Yadav, Secretary, Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, said that the sub-scheme of Smile Yojana ‘Comprehensive Rehabilitation of Persons Engaged in the Act of Begging’ has been implemented in Ayodhya. Through this, beggars will be identified and settled in shelter homes.
The secretary of the department was speaking at a one-day national training and orientation program under the scheme. He said that these beggars will be brought into the mainstream of society by providing them training and providing them the benefits of government schemes through convergence of various departments and by employing them in various fields of livelihood. This will help in building a healthy and prosperous India.
Other speakers, while throwing light on the scheme, gave information about the efforts being made towards elimination of begging. The need to provide strength to the people involved in this and bring them into the main stream of society was highlighted. Director of Social Justice and Empowerment Department Kajal Singh, economic advisor Ajay Shrivastava, Deputy Director Dr. Giriraj, Director of Social Welfare Department Kumar Prashant, representatives of NGOs running begging elimination programs in different cities, district officials of Social Justice and Empowerment Department and Social Welfare Department, besides 150 representatives of the implementing agency participated in the program.
